Audierne to Bénedot
Day 9

So today John was due to leave. We had a quick cup of tea, visited the onshore heads , back via the boulangerie and it was time for John to go and  after an emotional farewell and lots of man hugs, he left to catch his bus and for the remaining 3, Marco , Chloe and me to ready the boat and depart.

It was a nice gentle departure , Marco and Chloe managed quite a long chat with Theresa and we were pleasantly surprised to find a bit of wind waiting for us once we exited the inlet.

We then had a nice tack across the bay, however we should probably have been more aggressive with the sails as we had to put in a tack and use a bit of motor to get around the point.

I have been trying to get shot of a gannet for days now. This is the best so far. They skim the water and are so quick that it has been quite difficult.

As we approached the point, we saw there were 4 lighthouses, how many do you need.

As we had made reasonable progress where were we going to stop. Lochtudy was the east of the next bay, the west would have been better ut there did not seem to be any marinas there. It would have to be Lochtudy or Bénodet.

After the lovely lunch 🥗 of ham (Costco) and cheese in the baguette I bought earlier we settled into the now shortish run to the port. And the decision was Bénodet! Because they picked up the phone first and managed to get past Marco’s very brave conversation in French. Bravo.

The approach to Bénedot was uneventful and quite calm. We were met and guided to our berth on the visitors pontoon. It is quite a pretty place but not with the history of Roscoff. We would have to be here for 2 nights as tomorrow’s winds were looking a bit fierce. We had a fairly laidback evening of tuna pasta and a couple of games of backgammon, where Captain Marco is such a good teacher , he won the first one and lost the next 2 :-).

As I settled down to sleep the boat was literally twitching in the tide and swell every second or so. I was relieved to hear Marco going out to fix it. Phew…. I had a good nights sleep, surfacing at 9.

I could maybe understand 2 but 4? Anyway they make for a good photo, so thanks!

So onto Bénodet. A slightly strange place. We are in Sainte Marie on the western shore. Very pleasant but not that much here. The berth was nice and easy to get to and moor up. All the services are distributed around. the douches are in a wood?
