La Rochelle - Layover 1st Day
After that 30 hour sail, I slept straight through to 7:30. Quite unusual for me. Dawn was , yet again, pretty fiery.
I had to go for a little walk to the chemists (details available on request, but honestly you don’t want to know!) This is standard get up, last year you would probably get arrested walking into a pharmacy like this. The rest of the day was pretty chilled, rang a few people, a bit of website work, bit of blog. Marco and Chloe went off to the shops.
It was Chloe’s last night with us. After being on the boat since the middle of July, she had done well to last this long, especially with only old men for company. She is off to stay with relatives in France before starting a job in Spain as a teaching assistant. So we got on the ferry to town for a last meal out.
Being La Rochelle, it was a fantastic journey in. As we approached the old port, I could see the hotel where Sue and I stayed for our 25th wedding anniversary holiday. It is just to the right of the tall half timbered house, which is on the left of the picture.
As we got off the boat there was a torrential downpour. So we hopped from shelter to shelter checking out the restaurants.
We ended up at the lovely Italian restaurant, La Bella Donna. Here is Chloe and Marco; Chloe with her favourite drink of Aperol Spritz.
I had the Risotto del la Mare (?) Lovely.
A brief walk along the prom, to aid the digestion
And back on the ferry to the marina. The end of another day and the beginning of a new chapter. And then there were two.
