La Rochelle to Laredo - Day one
I woke up up at 5:45 , 15 minutes before my alarm and I had a note from sue expressing some concerns, so I told her the above. Then time for a cup of tea before we prepped for departure at 7am. We had a small problem as a boat was moored at our rear making getting away a little complex. The marina staff had said they would help get us out but were no where to be seen.
The very cool French man on the boat, behind our stern, appeared, replete in his straggly long blond hair and Breton sailors smock (sorry, I only got a picture of the boat). He kindly ran up to the marina office and they sent a boat round to help. They pulled our stern out and we set off, without bumps, to the fuel pontoon.
……. set off just as the sun was rising above the masts in the marina.
Zero sightings for hours and hours , 24 hours in total, a whole day! We saw a few seagulls but nothing else but rolling swells , Simpson clouds and the sun. I can’t remember a time when I spent this long with no sign of humanity, other than Marcello and the boat. We had a lot of music playing, 80s dance , reggae and my 2019 playlist, all available on Spotify if you’re interested.
Dinner was the Kerala curry I had cooked the day before, with rice. It looks disgusting but was really rather nice. So nice, I had seconds as my midnight feast. Marco had it for breakfast the next day.
The weather was still sunny, as it had been all day. Lots of little clouds dotted the sky, concentrated on the horizons as the sun started to set. We were going to have another lovely sunset. It didn’t disappoint, although the one passing the channel islands was still the best. It’s all in the clouds.
Yet another fabulous sunset

The moon had risen as the sun had set. It was nearly a full moon, just a couple of days away from completing its cycle. It was ascending in the sky and looking like it would be our companion for the whole night.
I have been playing with long exposures and moving the camera at the same time. I am quite enjoying the results
