Laredo to Viveiro - Day 1

Two kingfishers on the pontoon next to us.

As the marina was quite empty, I got onto the pontoons to get some good shots of the boat, uninterrupted by any other boats. Does that count as going on shore?
As I wasn’t going ashore Marco had to do the rubbish etc. 🙂. Alarmingly, in the news, we learnt via a text from John, that Portugal was likely to go back on the quarantine list ! This would mean me having to isolate when I got back home for 2 weeks. We will find out on Thursday, however these leaks tend to be accurate. Rather annoying, however on discussing this with Sue later on the day she was pretty cool about it. I will probably try to get a covid test when I get home.

We got the boat ready, had showers on board, got the electric cable in  filled up with water, cleared the decks.

A lot of the marinas have these fish on them, loads of them. You can see them moseying about quite unperturbed by the boats and sailors,

On the way out of the inlet, we passed this lighthouse built on to a small promontory. On one of the photos you can see a socially distanced(?) group of people walking down to it. Rather them than me!
It was going to be quite a long voyage. As we were quite close to the coast we were getting a bit of data coverage, so I did some website work. I actually managed to get a website live for my customers South Coast Carpentry. It all went swimmingly and then I was able to make a few tweaks to it while we trundled along. You can see that at this point Otto and me were the only ones doing any work. Marco is flat out!. “Otto” is our new name for the auto-pilot. Thanks to Douglas Buchanan for the name :-).
Another stunning sunset. This time we were heading straight into it. As it set, so the moon rose.
After the sun sunk over the horizon and the mon started to rise these visitors turned up. We had seen dolphins before but not have them around us for this long. They are my new favourite animals, you can keep your dogs and cats, dolphins are tops!
After all that excitement I didn’t get to sleep until 3 in the morning. Modern navigation aids, with screens and GPS make life so much easier. Otto was in charge and we just kept a look out for fishing vessels and other boats. We knew we were well clear of the shore and in nice deep water. As midnight approached we only had another 18 hours to go!
