La Coruña
Layover Day 2
I woke early, so I decided to go for a stroll, as this is sometimes the best time of the day to go and take photos. The sun was coming up on the other side of the city , so it wasn’t the best light. However a nice view of the port authority building in the pre-sunrise light.
I did have a little bit of a setback, while getting ready, as my phone transferred it self from my back pocket to the toilet …. Luckily it is water proof and it has been throughly cleaned since!
The sun had started to peak above the buildings which adds good shadows to the photographs.

We didn’t have that much to do today. We were going to meet with Eva again, but she had to look after her parents. Marco was feeling like he needed some exercise, so we thought we would walk to the Tower of Hercules. It was quite a long way away, all along the serpent. The weather was good for walking i.e. cold, at least for Spain. Given that the tower is built in the 2nd century it is an impressive structure. The top part and exterior were added just a few centuries ago.
They also have some standing stones out on the point, which add interest to the walk. We then walked back via the beach. I’m sure I remember skinny dipping in there 30 years ago.
We then had a pretty terrible lunch of tortilla (how can they get that wrong!) and nipped to the shops to get some dinner. We desperately were craving some vegetables.
I had a long sleep, 2 hours – which is rare for me. I awoke about 6pm and had a long chat with Sue.
We discussed when I should try to get home and how much of the rest of the journey to do. She has been amazingly supportive of us on this trip. I do feel a bit guilty having this adventure while she is having to work in difficult circumstances at college. She is fine for me to continue to the journeys end in Lagos, Portugal.

Here in Spain you have to wear your mask ALL the time you are out in public. I have to say the Spanish are very compliant on this, which I think is a good thing. However with a beard it is so bloody itchy I was desperate to get the mask off and the to get rid of the beard.
So while I was in the shop, I bought a little electric clipper and sat on the back of the boat to get rid of the bear. For such a small little clipper it did a reasonable job.
While I was doing this, Marco invited the Swiss couple next door over for a drink. Most people here also seem to be on big adventures. They were getting there boat ready for going south to Portugal and then live on their boat in the Med for a year or so. We swapped lots of stories and advise. So a good end to the day.
Tomorrow we have 2 new crew members arriving. More on that tomorrow.
