Final Destination
Lagos

After 3 hours sleep we got up for the next shift. Virtually nothing happened, so we did sudoku and glanced at the vague horizon occasionally. Back to bed at 6am and then up 7 for the sunrise, which was OK, but nothing special. I keep remembering L’Aber Wrach

So back to the cabin, most of the time was spent chatting to Sue on the phone. John sent a text to see if we could get a decent shot of his apartment complex from the sea. So I checked the map and we would be there in about an hour.

I have been to this area twice before to stay with John and go walking. It was interesting to see the walks from the sea. Previously, when we had been in Lagos I noticed a lot of boat trips and wondered what they went to see. At the end of the promontory there are a lot of sandstone pillars and caves which are impressive. The last photo was of a fish restaurant we had walked to for lunch.
Here is the picture for John.
As we approached Praia de Luz, we went past the house of Marco’s friends, Lisa and Geoff. They were to busy playing tennis to witness our passing, but Lisa’s sister and brother in law, Andrew and Debbie,  kindly got us this picture. You can just make us out sailing (with the motor on).

So here we are .. at last … Lagos

  • 250 engine hours  – that is over 10 days solid!
  • over 2500kms direct on the google maps, about 3500Kms as we wiggled about.
  • one whole month
  • 11 days lay over due to bad weather
  • 6 crew – Marco, Chloe, Dave, John, Viv and Lukas
  • 5 nationalities – Australian, Swedish, Dutch, English and Brummie
  • 4 countries – UK, France, Spain and Portugal
  • 13 ports – Lymington, Cherbourg, Roscoff, L’Aber Wrach, Audierne , Bénodet, La Rochelle, Laredo, Viviero, La Coruña, Porto, Oeiras and Lagos

And breathe 🙂

We pulled up on the welcome jetty in the channel and got our berth sorted out. We motored around and docked pretty smoothly. Time for a beer or two. We finished off the rest of the curry and then went off to do our washing in the laundrette. The air-conditioned launderette. While the washing was going  I had a quick but necessary shower and then back to the launderette to get the clothes in the dryer and have an ice cream.

Lisa and Geoff came over for drinks on the boat and then to complete the cycle we went for

A curry

And very nice it was too.

We then walked back to the boat, said goodbye to Lisa and Geoff for the evening. We were supposed to have out vintage port, but everyone was soo knackered that we just went to bed.

Goodnight John-boy.
