Tom’s Field – Day 2

We got up and had a jalapeno sausage roll for breakfast, before deciding where to go on our walk, or more which route to take. After the downpour the day before, the coastal path might be a bit boggy. We knew we wanted to go to Swanage so we followed the Priest’s way, which was a stony path all the way to the town.

Once in the centre of the town, we wandered along the front, almost to the end, to a cafe which has a nice view of the beach. It has several levels and we went up to the top one for the best view and Sue treated us to a coffee. I had also asked for a cake and was slightly disappointed with the stodgy pre-wrapped flapjack she came back with saying that was all they had. Oh well….
Chris bravely went off for a swim in the sea and then cavorted around the seafront getting clandestine (on the whole) shots of Joe public at their best in various states. I have titled this (my own photo) State of the Nation….at least he is reading a book,

We poked around the shops for a bit and then had fish and chips, sitting in the cafe which was still observing social distancing. Very good fish and the chips were not too bad. Chris ordered a pot of communal curry sauce (they didn’t have gravy), which was a blast from the past, and we all dunked away with absolutely no double-dipping in these times of covid!

Feeling a little bit fatter we set off back to the campsite. As we approached the rain started again and we quickened our pace to avoid having to put our waterproofs on. We had a little siesta and then we got up and had a meat feast of Upton’s minute steaks and 8oz burgers. Sue had bought 4 burgers but they were so big we only cooked 2 of them. Pre-dinner drinks were tins of gin and tonic, courtesy of Caroline and Chris.

On the subject of cooking, we were able to try out the latest van gadget. A 2nd hand induction hob ( courtesy of Steve Dobbs). The van had an electric hookup here, so I ran an extension cable out, and then with the hob resting on a box, I built for it, on the camping table we pan fried the meat. I was sat next to it and could just cook the meat to order with great temperature control. Shame the pans required cost twice the amount of the hob, but we will get a lot of use out of them and it will save a lot of gas and use (hopefully) the ever cleaner electricity.

After a few glasses of wine, we all retired. We were looking forward to much better weather over the next few days, although even cloudy weather is fine as long as the rain stays away! All the photos aer below.
