We got up for the dawn, just and we dashed down to Porth Gwiddan to have a dawn swim. The sun had just breached the horizon and we braved the chilly Atlantic waters. As usual, once you are in it is lovely. We were in about 30 minutes, I even managed a little drive. We will definitely go back there.
We then wandered back to the cottage and got showered ready for our full English breakfast at The Sloop. Judith and I wondered down the aptly named back street to it and nabbed a couple of little tables ready to order. Alarmingley they did not start serving until 9:30 due to staff shortages. So we had to hang around for it, which is fine when you have the view of St Ives Harbour, even with all the traffic. Breakfast was duly served and put away. Sue then went to interrogate the boat men about boat trips to Godrivy lighthouse and we had a choice of today at 11 or Thursday. We jumped at the chance of 11am. I shot off back to the cottage to get ready and Sue went to buy some suncream.
We set off to the boat and Sue was slightly ahead of me. I met her outside a cheap seaside shop and she instructed me to buy some cheap sunglasses for the trip, which I gladly did. We found the jetty to get the tender to the ferry and queued up. We got on the ferry and donned out life jackets.
It was very nice to see things from a different angle. We sailed along hugging he coast and we had historical facts pointed out to us about shipwrecks and other things. As we approached Godrivy we heard how it was now a protected building and the it was the inspiration for Virginia Wolfe’s book, even though it was set elsewhere. We saw cormorants ( or are they shags) and a few seals. Even a young one , which are more yellow than the older seals.
It was great to see the lighthouse from all different angles , with the channels and ironwork that they used to use. We then sailed directly back across the bay and got to have view of Porth Gwiddan and Bamaluz from the sea.
After arriving back we went to the off licence to get some beers and I got tempted by a cuban cigar. I then cooked a mushroom risotto for us and w had it with a slice of sourdough from the bakery which was close by.After that we had some more cheese and biscuits, while Judy and Ivan had a bread and butter pudding. We snuck off to the Porth Meor beach , going via the offlicense for som rum miniatures so that we could have a litle bit of rum as I smoked the cigar.

As the sky started to fade we wandered back to the cottage just in time to watch Bake Off, which is particularly interesting as Ben’s University friend Christelle is in it. Judy and Ivan went out for a short stroll after they had finished speaking to Sharon, as it was her birthday, and joined us for the last 30 minutes. Then it was time for bed.
