Waterfalls

I woke early and had another walk around the cottage. There was mist in the valley and the sun was still behind the hill. I wondered up the brook and some of the scenery is stunning, like a Japanese garden. We had a small breakfast as we were going to a pub for lunch. I took a few more photos as it is so stunning here.

We decided to take the new Fiesta to go to see White Lady’s waterfall. On the way, we went past Brentor and made a note to visit it soon as it looked fantastic. We got to the National Trust car park and were a little surprised to find everything shut. We all set off towards the waterfall but after a while, it appeared that it would be a bit much for Judith to get to the stream and the waterfall, so she and Ivan turned back and Sue and I carried on.The sccenery was fantastic and the waterfall was surprisingly high, about 30m (90ft). The way down was a reasonably gradual slope but back up were steps that were quite steep. Judith and Ivan had made it back to the car and we thought we would try to look at the pool, Devils Cauldron, at the other end of the gorge, but the car park was shut so we needed an alternative plan.

We decided to go back to Brentor and climb up to the little church, St Michael de Rupe. It is a stunning location, up on a green hill to the west of Dartmoor with nothing stopping the raging wind that we found once we got to the top. Sadly, the church was shut, so we couldn’t go in but the views and the climb were fantastic.

We sloped off back to the car and met back up with Judith and Ivan and set off for our pub lunch at the Peter Tavey Inn. I plugged its name into the satnav and set off, through Tavistock and out the other side where we ended up in Princeton, much to Judith amd Ivan’s surprise as they said it should be out in the country. Sue then looked it up on their website and sure enough, the satnav was wrong and we had to retrace our steps for about 5 miles until we got on the right road to the pub. We turned down the little road to the pub and had to stop as a farmer and his dogs were unloading a load of sheep into his barn. After a couple of minutes, we progressed past the newly incarcerated sheep and parked at the pub. It is a lovely pub and the food was great. Thanks to Judy and Ivan for the treat!

After that, we drove back and not surprisingly, all went for a kip.

Sue and I went a walk up the brook and through the gardens by the house. I took my camera and tripod and got some lovely shots as I hope you agree. I keep being surprised at how lovely this location is.

We had a light dinner and chat and then I went through the photos of the day and put this together. I am very glad I can get al ittele bit of internet now as I have had 3 customer contacts today! One about helping Ukranian refugees with a website!
