Day one: Monday the 28th of March has finally arrived!! Having first planned to take the van to France in 2020, then postponing it twice due to Covid, we were finally ready to go! We got up pretty early and started to organise our packing.
This involved working out what we needed for the ferry trip and then roughly organising things in the van into what we need to then take on the boat and what we needed for the road trip. Luckily we had been collecting all supplies in the back bedroom for some time, so the packing process was very smooth and we felt ready to go by about 11:30!!
We realised that our Sainsbury’s vegetable bags were perfect travel companions and stashed all the chargers and leads into one of them, making them instantly visible for what we needed.
We headed off in good time for our ferry but when we got to the terminal our plans took a turn for the worse!! The queue was extremely slow and when we got to the booth there was a problem with our documentation. This caused a significant delay but the Brittany ferries employee Natasha helped us race against the clock to catch our ferry. We then had a fairly thorough search of the campervan, including a search under the chassis. By the time we got to our cabin it was only 10 minutes before we sailed and we were in an extremely stressed state.
A pint in the bar for Dave and a double gin for me managed to calm our nerves. We rounded of the night in our cabin with some red wine and some delicious Cornish charcuterie which Sam had given me for Mother’s Day the day before. We both managed to have a fairly good night’s sleep.
Yum those venison sticks look positively Polish !
This time the comment WILL be sent.
So sorry for your stressful start.
Alls well now though.
