Caceres

So we had a fantastic nights sleep probably because we avoided the vino tinto last night. We got up in a leisurely fashion had a cup of tea I did 15 minutes of yoga outside the van in the early morning sun. Sue made a lovely breakfast or scrambled egg on sourdough toast which I nearly ruined because our neighbour drove off dragging his mobile home supporting legs behind him which could’ve been bad news. So I ran after him just as Sue was serving.

I did a little bit of work, as I am doing a Ukrainian hosting website for one of my customers, pro bono and then we got ready for a day of being tourists.

We walked out of the Campsite past the local football stadium over the bridge and caught the bus to town.

We arrived in the centre and had a walk through lovely parks and old streets to the Plaza Mayor. We were quite taken aback with the old city there is so much there and lots of interesting things to see.

There were hundreds of school kids running around shouting loudly pretty much the whole time but they made up for that by acting out a play on the steps of one of the old buildings and having a mock sword fight. Sue was extremely glad that she wasn’t in charge of any of them.

As well walking around the Plaza Mayor, we also went up some of the old towers and walked around the old section of the town which is a UNESCO heritage site. There was so much to see……

By that time it was time for lunch so we found a restaurant just-in-time as it started pouring with rain. We had a menu for €12 which even included two beers. After that we decided to return to the campsite and so caught the bus and walked back. It was raining a little bit by this time but as soon as we got in the van the heavens opened, luckily for us as we did not have our waterproofs with us. I think we just assume in Spain it never rains but then we must be on the plain – Sorry bit cheesy.

We went for a short walk in the countryside behind the campsite. There was a huge olive grove there. It felt good to have a less sedentary day. We had walked a fair distance and rounded off the evening with a beer for Dave and a gin and tonic for me in the campsite bar. The gin was a satisfying Spanish measure. They brought out a nice little bowl of beef stew as a tapa as well. We went back to the van and, wonder of wonders, just had an apple for dinner. Dave did a bit of website work and I did some research on our next destination Huelva.
