A Testing Sail

So, I (Dave!) awoke in the morning with an urge and had to walk very quickly to the toilet which was empty, as it was 6.30 in the morning.

When I got back I made some tea and we all got up and had some breakfast. We then had our duties to do mine was shopping and Sue came with me. Marco went and got some more gas and Sue also put a wash through.

After lunch, we went on a sail to test out the boat before the start of the journey tomorrow. Casting off went well and we exited the Lagos harbour smoothly. We sailed right out to the point putting in a few tacks and sailed quite close to the rocks to get a good view. There were lots of pleasure boats and canoes paddling around, even a speedboat flying through the arches of the rocks.

We then headed back to Lagos, and prepared to berth the boat in our very tight spot with a short pontoon and a stupidly placed electric hookup box.

Berthing it was a bit complicated as the pontoon is too short for the boat so we had to rope it to make sure it didn’t keep going forwards into the electric box on the pontoon. The idea was to put two ropes round the back seat on the pontoon but it didn’t really work so I was all in a bit of a panic though no damage was done but it was a bit stressful. We eventually got it roped up okay and did some more preparation for the sail tomorrow such as filling up about 1000 L of water, or that’s what it felt like.

I had a quick call with a customer, and then we checked in on Sue and her progress with the laundry. Never in the history of marinas has there been a Laundrette as bad as the one here. The washer didn’t spin properly and the dryer didn’t dry so Sue and many other marina residents struggled to get their laundry done. This was a huge source of stress for Sue. (LOL).

We decided to go out for dinner as it was our last night in port for a while and so we decided to take the wet clothes to the laundry in the town, grab a beer and then go to the restaurant.

While Sue was drying the laundry we couldnt find a bar we liked so Marco and I went to the restaurant I had a couple of beers there while we waited for Sue. I whatsapp’ed her the menu. We all had nice local fish, I had salted cod (bacalao) and a little local white wine ( 1 L).

The laundry still wasn’t dry, so Marco and I went to the local Irish bar and Sue popped it back in the dryer for a bit longer. She joined us quite soon and had a small Estrella Galicia. We finished our beers and headed back to the boat. On the way back the wind felt positively wintry, I hope it’s not that cold tomorrow.

Susan, what a miserable experience having such trouble with drying the laundry.
It appears there were a number of irritating little problems, but all ironed out in the end. Do you iron things when you go sailing on a boat.
I saw the film ‘Sea Wife’ years ago with Joan Collins starring in it. I don’t recall her doing any ironing.!!
Wonderful sunset.
Stay happy all of you.x🦋
