The 1st of May is a big day in Spain. Not only is it Labour Day and Mother’s Day, but also because it is May Day you will see garlands of mimosa everywhere to herald the new month. It is also Granny Gibson’s birthday.
We packed our bags ready to follow Eva to A Coruña. We put them in the boot of Eva’s car and then went for breakfast. We went to a local café where Eva bought three coffees and it came with a shot of orange juice and quite a lot of cake, all for less than €5. There was even a pigeon in there to keep us company. Eva then drove us to the van and we set off for A Coruña.
We got to her parent’s flat and found a great parking space nearby. Eva and her parents went for their Mother’s Day lunch and we walked into A Coruña. Dave was tour guide this time as he’d been here with Marco in 2020, whereas I hadn’t been here for about thirty years! We had a snacky lunch and strolled through the old town.
Whilst we were there we got a photo from Fraser and Catrina, who were eating paella whilst visiting Anna and her boy friend in Valencia. They did not realise that Marco was there, so we let them know so that they could get together.
The sand on the beach was in the shape of a giant dune, raised in the centre and this is done each year to protect the beach from winter storms. Each year on June 15th they smooth the sand out again for the summer season. In September they build the dune again.
We were all pretty tired so had a siesta and then chilled and chatted in the evening. We all had some lovely cheeses and meats washed down with beer. Eva found an old copy of our university magazine from 1987. I’d never seen it before but our photo was in it with me wearing her flamenco dress (and Eva back left) It also had a description of life in hall in the 80s, which caused much amusement! it was lovely to meet Eva´s parents and see where they live.
Amusing to know 1st May is Labour Day and Mother’s Day. !! Granny Gibson would no doubt be given a posy of Lilly of the Valley. Garlands of mimosa would have looked so pretty
Love the thank you written in the sand.
Tim and Nicky did that when they stayed with us in Cornwall once.
More glorious food !!
It was great seeing you both! Thank you for the company, the laughs, the chat, for loving my country…
And a special thank you for being the way you are…it was as if 33 years hadn’t gone by.
Love the blog and your photos.
Enjoy the rest of the trip, you lucky cabrones🤣🤣🤣🤣
