We popped by the farm to say goodbye to our host and then drove to Dave and Ann’s house nearby to stock up with beer. We had a peep at the brewery room, the centre of operations! We had to guard the van closely to make sure none of their adopted cats jumped in before we drove off!!
Then we went on our way to our first planned destination of Cudillero. This was another place that Eva had recommended and was a very picturesque little fishing village with colourfully-painted houses. We had a quick coffee there and then climbed up steep steps to the top where there was a really good viewing point across the village and the harbour.
Our final destination for the day was Comillas, where we planned to visit El Capricho, one of the few of Gaudí’s creations outside Barcelona. We got there after 3 o’clock, by which time we were starving as we only had a (lardy!) biscuit for breakfast. We found a nice square and sampled the Asturian speciality, cachopo, which Eva had had with her Mum on Mother’s Day and strongly recommended! This consisted of very thinly sliced steak, stuffed with cheese and ham and fried in breadcrumbs. Just to make sure there were enough calories in it, it came with chips! As you can imagine, with those ingredients, it tasted pretty nice!! In fact, we could barely walk afterwards, so wended our way very slowly to El Capricho which, thankfully, was very close by!
The house from the outside was really stunning and original. It looked even better against blue skies! Inside, there were lots of interesting rooms and a beautiful conservatory with loads of plants in it. Some of the rooms had on display elements of some of Gaudí’s designs in Barcelona, such as furniture and door knobs. Every detail had an original element, so it was well worth a visit.
We then drove to Comillas Campsite, which was shut, so we tried Camping Oyambre Beach, a few kilometres back to the east. We thought we’d stay there one night but it was so nice we’ve decided to stay for two. It’s a minute’s walk to a gorgeous beach. We had a nice long walk along the shoreline and the weather was at last good enough to cook outside, so it all felt pretty relaxing. There was a nice shower block, a camping shop with all the basics and even hot water for dishes!!!! Such luxury!!! It was warm enough (just about) to cook outside.
I’m so glad you are enjoying the places I recommended! You’re on your own now!🤣🤣🤣
Lol… just chilling by a beach now. Flamenco band at the campsite tonight so we are staying !!
Eva did you proud with the places she recommended.
Such a pretty fishing village, and the Mother’s Day lunch sounds so yummy.
Keep enjoying every moment.
Must say this, today is Helston Flora Day, the first one for threes years, and the sun is shining. There will be bluebells everywhere. Jx🦋
