A country walk… and lunch

We woke to the sound of rain but it soon stopped and the garden got a good water! Fran and I had a good stroll around as she checked on the new plants and trained them in the right direction. Dave G did some website work in the morning. Fran, Dave S and I meanwhile went to Bricomarché, Lidl and a garden centre to exchange her wellies for a larger size, and get some plants, compost and bread. We breakfasted back at Manzac on croissants and coffee.

I needed to post a letter. Fran gave me a stamp and explained the excellent system they have in place. The postman, Didier, picks up anything they wish to post, which they indicate by putting a clothes peg on the outside of their postbox. So, even if they do not have any post themselves, he can see when he goes by if they have letters for collection. This is such a great and convenient system for such a rural community.

After that we went on a lovely walk from Manzac through woodland to La Cloche restaurant in Abjat-sur-Bandiat and had the menu du jour. this was breaded Camembert salad, followed by salmon en croûte/ pork for Dave and finally strawberry pavlova or passion fruit tart. All very delicious! Dave and Dave  even had a pint of local beer from a hand pump, which was very good if a tad expensive!

We had a peep in the local church, walked past lovely recent planting in the village and the smallest town hall ever and then completed the rest of our circular route which was very picturesque. It was mainly uphill on the way and mainly downhill on the way back, so well-planned for a big lunch!! We met their friend Ann on the way back who was having some work done on her house.

We were very pleased to see that we had walked ten miles – it definitely helped having a long break for lunch in the middle of it!! We had a relatively quiet evening, a bite to eat outside and then an early night.

The black and white photography was perfect for the shots you took.
The first one, minus the modern building on the left, could have been a scene from ‘Wuthering Heights’.
We were walking in Yorkshire when that was being filmed, it was very fascinating as all the props were made of polystyrene.
Walking through the meadow is lovely, you can almost see the grasses waving in the breeze.
Very impressive, walking 10 miles. Jx🥐
