On the road again!

After the walk the night before we slept through till 9 o’clock. We packed the van and had a bit of breakfast and a final chat with Fran and Dave then headed off to our next destination. We had had a lovely few days there and they were fantastic hosts showing us so many lovely sites and experiences! I took a few final photos of all the lovely details in the entrance area.

We did a shop at a local Intermarché and I was very impressed by the 24-hour laundrette facility on the outside plus a bake your baguette in a minute machine!!!

After a couple of hours drive we stopped off at an aire for a coffee and some Prince biscuits evocative of school trips. It had the most disgusting toilet ever, hole in the ground stuff, not seen one like that since the 1970s.

We had almost got to our destination but there was a roadblock because of the local Loire Marathon, so we had to take a roundabout route and ask one of the marshals how to get to the other side of the river.

Eventually we found the campsite and despite the full sign on the door, managed to get a pitch as quite a few of the marathon runners had been camping there and had to get out by 4 o’clock.

We had a quick snack, of chorizo, fresh baguette, tomatoes and then a little siesta.

Then we went for a walk around the campsite and there was an incredible view of Saumur castle within about a minute´s walk from our tent there was also a lovely wooden terrace by the restaurant and pool area with a direct view over the castle.

We decided to come back to the van and finish the blogs from the last two days, and then go out to catch the sunset over the bridge, Pont du Cadre Noir. We then got back to the van and turned in for an early night, however there were a lot of happy runners in the caravans next to us who were extremely noisy until about 11. At least they were having a good time. Despite the noise we slept through till 8 am the next day.

You were very lucky to get a pitch and good views nearby.
Lovely sunset.
My mouth waters when you use the word baguette.
