We woke up and ventured upstairs. Sue(Boss) and Paul were doing their regular 1km swimming in their pool whereas Sue (wife) and I lolled about having a cup of tea and a bit of toast.
This mornings activity was to go for a walk in the local woods of Le Tronchet with the walking group that Sue helps to run. I have a little involvement with this group as I host the website that Sue runs for it. It was about 15 minutes away and Sue drove us both there and introduced us to the group. Luckily Christophe turned up who spoke English , so I had someone to talk to as we walked. We ended up at the site of a neolithic tomb (allée couverte) in the middle of the forest. I have seen something similar up at Avebury a year or so ago with Ben. While we were walking I noticed a dog was with us. I though it belonged to one of the group, but apparently not , it was just some random dog that liked us. Luckily when we got back to the village it scarpered off home. We said goodbye and Sue showed us a few of the local sites, a poorly run hotel and the local Abbey and cloisters.
When we got back I had a quick swim in the pool and then we had a very nice lunch of local bread, cheese and charcuterie.
After lunch we gave Sue and Andy a tour of our rather grubby (on the outside) van and then they gave us a tour of their extensive plantings.
Trees: Apple, pear, cherry, walnut, fig, almond, Kiwi, peach, plum
Fruit: Strawberries, blackcurrants, raspberries, Blueberries, blackberries, white grapes, black grapes and rhubarb
Vegetables: Spring onions, normal onions, courgettes, tomatoes, new potatoes, spinach, cabbage, beans, broad beans, rocket, carrots and beetroot
A very impressive assortment I am sure you will agree!
And also hens!
At about 5 o’clock we set off with Sue and her brother to St Malo for a bit of a walk around before dinner. We had been here before many years ago but it was great to see it all again. We started walking around the wall and the beaches were looking lovely and not too full of tourists! We then went down into the town and had a drink in a very quirky bar before meeting Paul at a the restaurant run by the parents of a friend of Sue’s daughter, Holly. It was all very delicious.
We then sauntered slowly back to the place where Sue had parked in very close to the city walls so I got some nice night time shots!
One more day before we set off back to Blighty!
