So we got up in a leisurely fashion and had bread toasted with jam and peanut butter for breakfast. We then went and tried out the newly filled swimming pool. We donned our trendy swimming hats and took the plunge. We had the pool entirely to ourselves, and it was fantastic as we were surrounded by the beautiful mountain scenery. We did a fair few lengths before anyone else came along, so felt that this constituted part of our exercise for the day. Surprisingly, neither of us felt hungry at all during the day. This is most out of character.
We decided to go for a local walk in the afternoon, which we were able to do directly from the campsite. We headed up the hill , a 400ft climb up, to the Monasterio de Santo Toriblo de Llebana where it is said that the largest remaining part of Jesus’ cross is kept. Views were spectacular from this high vantage point, and we had an interesting chat with a Spanish fellow who had very strong opinions about British lager louts and the Guardia Civil as opposed to the Policía Nacional, nowadays. Just at that moment another Spanish guy said “I’m a policeman ….”. We left fairly soon after that.
We returned to the van where we chilled out for a little bit longer before going to the bar at about 7:00 to get something to eat. Being Spain, it didn’t open till 7.30 and so we had a beer and chatted to our neighbors on the campsite who were from Newcastle, and being northerners are pretty hard-core as they were travelling in an A3 convertible and camping and they were older than us, respect!
We went back to the van and chilled out and watched an episode of some average police drama with Nicola Walker talking directly to the camera, a bit too often.
