The Return

We had an OK night’s sleep despite the flies – citronella candle for Christmas please. We packed up and got the van ready for the off. I then started to research where to go and stock up with wine as we have a whole van to possibly fill. Disaster, It’s Spain , they all shut on a Sunday! So that’s good for our livers! We paid (in cash) at the campsite exit and went to fill up with diesel (7p/litre cheaper than Costco …wahay!) . This was only the 2nd time we had to fill up, which was pretty good going.

He told us there was a shop around the corner that was open, so we got some bread and supplies and a couple of bottles of wine as the choice wasn’t great, now that we are such wine experts. 🤣

We then decided to get down to the ferry, a whole 10 minutes drive away. After a couple of wrong turns, we arrived and made a very nice sandwich for an early lunch while we waited. We started to move but just a bit at a time. Not the best loading of a boat I have seen. Once on board we got into the cabin and the went out on deck to watch the fabulous city of Santander pass us by as the ferry slipped its mooring and headed out to the Bay, past a lot of the landmarks we had seen ton the days before.

We then sat in the bar while I polished off a bag of porky scratching things with a can of Mahou (pronounced mau or cow with an ‘m’) then retired to our cabin (no window ) binge watched “The Big Bang Theory“, including the last ever episode and while having our tea of bagel, gazpacho and ham and then watched a film – “The little things” … a bit like Seven.

The next morning we had breakfast in the cabin. We decided to be frugal on the return ferry to justify having a takeaway curry when we got home. We chilled out most of the day and as we were approaching Portsmouth went up on dock to see the sights. We were a bit surprised to exit into a blanket of sea fog albeit with the sun blasting through it from above. As we passed the Isle of Wight it cleared and we got the marvellous views coming into Portsmouth. We docked promptly at 5:30, off by 6pm and back home 30 minutes later!

So this is the last blog of the trip, thank you for reading it!
