Dawn swim and on to Vathy

Sue and I got up at 7 and crept off the boat for a sunrise swim at the beach which was next to the bar that we went to the night before. We sat on the beach and waited for sunrise. As the sun rose a crazy man appeared , tied a float to himself and set off into the sea. We never saw him a gain. We crept into the sea due to the pebbles (must get some beach shoes) getting into the swimming position as soon as possible. Water temperature was lovely and we stayed in for a good 20 minutes or so.

We walked back to the boat, past the yoga head stand woman and climbed back onboard and met Marco who seemed disappointed to have missed the swim. We had a cup of tea and then decided to get breakfast. While waiting for Theresa to get up a couple of Aussies from the Gold Coast, where Marco and Theresa live walked past and had a long discussion with Marco about … boats.

We set off for breakfast and sat down at their first cafe, but I didn’t much like the menu. I get a bit snobby about a Full English in hot climates. We left and found a nice cafe next to a bakery and I had very nice yoghurt with muesli and honey, Theresa also had yoghurt and the others had eggs. There were a few wasps about so they put a little bowl of burning coffee grounds on the table to smoke them out.

On the way back Sue and I bought some beach shoes as the beaches are not at all sandy.

We checked what was left on the electricity we had paid for and it appeared we had used nothing. So we gave it to the woman 2 boats down who gave us some lovely serviettes in return…. Karma.

We set off for Vathy on Ithaka. The wind was a bit light and we had to motor. Again, we had to get in early to be sure of berth. The route in was beautiful and we approached the town quay and spotted a space that was supposed to be ok. It was pretty narrow and we approached slowly. Marco reversed it in to make sure it would fit and then we went back out into the harbour to get the anchor down in the correct place. The people in the next boat came out to make sure we got in safely, i.e no damage to their boat. Theresa got the anchor down and Marco reversed it in and the lady from next door helped us get the lines on at the aft of the boat. After a bit of jiggling about we were safely berthed.

We didn’t bother to get hooked up to the electric as we seem to have plenty. It was pretty warm so after a bit of a chill went off for beer and ice creams and to spot a restaurant for later. I had suggested gyros so we looked around for a restaurant that did them in the evening, which we found. After our refreshments Sue went for a look around and the rest of us went back to the boat and me for a badly needed shower.

We set off for dinner, got to our selected restaurant and ordered our food…. We were not disappointed. Luke warm at best, stale pitta not much dressing just a bit of mayo. Not good. Theresa’s roasted vegetables looked impressive but were not well cooked… hmmm at least it was cheap. We managed to wash some of it down with 1Kg (that’s how they sold it) of white wine.

Back to the boat and to bed, for the sloshiest night yet… The sea, not us!

A mixture of events. The food sounded inedible, what a shame.
We must all take the rough with the smooth.
Your swim sounded heavenly. Jx🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️
