As it was our final day in Syvota, we had a final breakfast in our favourite bakery and then stocked up with two slices of spanakopita to have for lunch in a bay later.
Yet again, the wind was on the nose, so we had to motor for the first part of the day. We stopped in a gorgeous cove and went for a relatively long swim. Dave did 10 laps of the boat, and I managed a feeble five. There were quite a few other people moored in the bay. We lunched on the spanakopita and tomato salad before heading off on our route to Lefkada.
Marco had kindly altered our itinerary to accommodate Dave‘s request to watch the England rugby, which they chose to do in an Irish bar in Lefkada. The wind picked up and meant we could tack for a while. We then had to sail up the Lefkada canal to get to our pre-booked pontoon. Much to Dave’s excitement, it was about a one minute walk to the Irish bar in question.
Theresa took me on a mini tour and we had a look in a few shops. I even managed to find a new white shirt, which I had been looking for since we got here as mine now has holes too large to mend! 😃 There were some beautiful properties and restaurants along the front. Lefkada is connected to the mainland by a bridge and is one of the less tourist islands.
Dave and Marco headed to the Irish bar for 7 to watch the Australia Fiji rugby match. Unfortunately Australia sustained their first loss to Fiji in 69 years!! So, the match was historic for all the wrong reasons. Theresa and I thought better of if and went for a very nice cocktail on the front where we saw the sun go down and people-watched locals and tourists on their evening promenade. There was even an elderly lady line-fishing near the bar! After the match Marco and Dave fund a conveniently placed Gyros cafe and then headed back to the boat for a brief catchup.
Eventually it was time for the England game at 10. In the early stages Japan were doing pretty well and at one point there was only a point in it, at 13 to 12, which was a bit nerve-racking! Marco bailed at half time as it was already way past his bedtime. Fortunately England pulled it back for a comfortable bonus point victory of 34 to 12. Dave and I tried to creep aboard the boat when we got back so as not to wake up the others.
A lovely time had by all once again.
People watching is wonderful.
Nice for you and Theresa to have some girl time. Jx🦋
