Sam and Harriet are off travelling for six months to Southeast Asia. So we thought we would help them by giving them a lift to the airport and hanging out with them for their last evening. We were going to stay two nights at The Brighton Marina Campsite, but the weather was looking rubbish so we just did Saturday night, and then we were going to stay in their flat which we are keeping on until they get back.
We had some things to drop off, so parked the van on the double yellow lines outside the flat and went in for a cup of coffee risking the parking police. After that we went and set up at the Campsite and wandered back where we went for a walk with them down to the beach and along to the Games café by the pier.
When we got to the café, it was full, probably not surprising for a Saturday afternoon, so we sat outside, it was a bit chilly, and Sue and Sam had a hot chocolate. Harriet and I had a beer. While we were sitting there the famous Brighton starling murmuration appeared before us making fantastic shapes as they swirled around the clouds.
I especially like this one
The Sun was setting and we had fantastic views and clouds as the sun went down, here you can see a few pictures.
We got back to the flat and ordered a curry from the local Indian takeaway, https://www.kemptowncuisine.co.uk/
This was very good and we would highly recommend it if you are in the area. It is also about 50 yards from the flat so very handy. I only have to buy nine more curries and I get a free one… So there’s a challenge.
We got a taxi back to the campsite, and chilled out watching “Kin” on the BBC.
After a good night’s sleep, albeit slightly chilly, we had a lazy morning and had a nice croissant from the on-site French bakery. We then went back to the flat and went for a late lunch with Sam. The cafés were quite full so we ended up in the artisan coffee shop and bakers and ate an outrageous cake. On returning to the flat, we chilled out until it was time to go, I went and got the van, and all four of us got in, Sam and Harriet with backpacks. We had a pretty easy drive round to Heathrow where we dropped them off, and had a slightly emotional farewell as they set off to Thailand.
Sue and I went back to the flat where we were staying the night.
The next morning we hung out and basically went out for more coffee and cake and a lovely lunch.
