Portugal: A long walk for a burger

After John and Dave did the morning bread run, with a magnificent sunshine on thebeach, we headed out to Carrapateira at about 10.30 and walked down to the beach at Bordeira. From there we followed the coast path as far as Amado beach before looping back to Carrapateira and the Micro Bar. The coastal scenery was stunning, with some amazing rock formations. There were plenty of boardwalks along the top but we tried to keep closer to the edge as this afforded us a much better view of the various coves and meant we could hear the soothing sound of the sea. 😃 We stopped to watch a guy in a very trendy- looking weighted camouflage wetsuit head out to sea and speculated about what he was diving for! That coastal stretch is know for the percebes (goose neck barnacles) which are a speciality in the region, but he was clearly after a deeper sea stash of some sort!

Once we returned we had lunch at the Micro Bar. Sue B recommended the raspberry lemonade with thyme which was the perfect refreshment after the latter part of our walk, when the sun had got much hotter! Most of us had burgers, which were excellent and John chose lasagne and Catrina a portobello mushroom, houmous and vegetable creation.

As tradition would have it, this was followed by a visit to Alice’s ice cream parlour in Sagres. There was an amazing array of flavours. I went for mango and cardamom sorbet with strawberry sorbet. Despite it being low season, the place was buzzing.

As it was Super Saturday, the final day of the Six Nations rugby, John and Dave went to a nearby sports bar to watch the England game.

Sadly it was the wrong outcome, but we rounded off the evening by joining them for cocktails at a very nice Irish bar Ollie’s up the hill from the flat.
