For our final full day, we had a  lie in then breakfasted on boiled eggs , followed by a gentle start, heading off up the nearby hill and along the coast to Porto de Mós at 11. The beach was buzzing, and there were plenty of people in the sea and surfers out and about.

After some refreshments, including Natas, John and Dave decided to walk back as there was just enough time before heading off to Salema fish restaurant for our 3 o’clock reservation. The ladies decided to pop in  a taxi so we had time to get ready for our fish lunch. 😃

It was a very windy day, and at one point, John’s favourite cap blew away, landing precariously near the edge of the cliff. Much to our alarm, he decided to retrieve it.

  • Clive: “Dave, your nearly at the top of the cliff!”
  • Stuart: “…honestly, I’m sure the nudist beach is down there.”

  • Andy: “Sue thought hard for a moment about John’s new life insurance policy as he searched for his contact lenses”
  • Clive: “John’s preparation for the next Red Bull Cliff Diving series didn’t get off to a good start”

The restaurant Boia was gorgeous, with a great display of fresh fish and we were lucky to have a prime seafront location. Catrina even coordinated with the crockery. 😃 Us three ladies shared a red snapper which the waiter expertly served at the table whilst the gents opted for the chunkier stone bass This was rounded off with more natas (another one!) served with coffee ice cream.

We wanted to paddle in the sea before our visit was over and there was gorgeous light on the beach as the sun went down. A freak wave almost washed away our shoes but we managed to make a run for them and find a safer spot up the beach.

There were ample opportunities for ‘arty’ photos, with boats, pots and reflections on the beach. Dave had some competition on his hands. 😃

All in all a chilled day today with a final step count of 12,384, a mere 8.5km stroll. 🤣

The gents ended the day with a walk out to a bar for a St Patrick’s Day Guinness (well John did ) whilst the ladies lazed back at the flat before the travel the next day.

For the final day of travel, keep going after the next set of photos.

Day 5, Monday

Our ‘professional’ hosts continued as they had started with Sue making us up a lunch for the journey, and John kindly ferrying us back to the airport.

We had a very smooth journey from start to finish. Catrina managed to navigate her way back home from London with lots of luggage and Hugo, the dog, who had had an exciting stay with Anna and her housemates. Anna was very happy with her cinnamon shaker and box of custard tarts!

We all had a comparatively very feeble step count compared to the last few days but had benefitted greatly from some sun, sea, Mediterranean food, Portuguese rosé, lots of walking and great company.

Step count today:
