Heligan

After a week working in Southampton on our old house, we have a week in Cornwall. Carefully timed to miss school half term. We spent last night with Sue’s Mum and Dad and we are now at Heligan Campsite, 2 minutes walk from “The Lost Gardens of Heligan. We had a very convoluted route here from Lanner ( I must look up to see if Waze has a setting for fat roads only!) . What a fantastic campsite. Check out the loos! The plot is a bit slopey , and I hate using levelling ramps, so we will just put up with a bit of a slope. We pitched the awning and set off to get some lunch from the farm shop next to the Gardens. After Sue had checked out the tickets for tomorrow ( a birthday treat for Judith tomorrow!) we bought some lunch and after a short chill out we set off along a nicely tarmacced cycle lane to Mevagissy. As you can see it is an idyllic Cornish fishing town. We wandered through it’s old streets until we reached the harbour and then wandered off a long the quay. At this point Sue spotted the public loos and set off to drop the kids off andI carried on. Very soon I received a frantic call, “Have you got a 50p?”. Who carries cash these days. “No” I sympathetically replied (not) and carried on. Sue then blagged 50p off some poor German tourist , trying to swap stamps for them, while I regaled the story to the cafe lady where I had a lovely fizzy drink (basil, strawberry and something) at the end of the pier. Sue turned up with a satisfied look on her face.We had a nice chat to the cafe girl and then set off back to the campsite, via the store for a can of G&T and a four pack of Guiness Zero (classy). It was a long walk back up to the camp site. It was nice to get back to the peaceful view and sit down and have a cold alcohol free Leffe. We ate quite late as lunch was quite filling. An Aktar at home curry (again). The fridge is working well as after 2 days it was still not defrosted!!! so we had to warm it slowly. That with a slightly fried naan bread ….lush. We enjoyed the fading light, and the visit from a female pheasant (the males were having a fight and were noisy)not a great sunset and while in Brighton we had a murmuration  tonight we had a murder!
