Obviously longer strides

We eventually got going and Sue went to check on how we got to the coastal path from here… basically head for the beach. However, this involved a precipitous climb down the gorge that is Porthtowan and then immediately scaling back up a very steep road (with lots of building going on ) to the top of the cliffs. Hopefully, there is a flatter way back… we shall see, or we could get the bus.
As far as Cornish coastal walks go, it wasn’t the best but still pretty spectacular with lovely breaks in the monotony of the flat cliff-top sections with probably the steepest climbs up and down we have come across.
We eventually descended into Portreath, and Sue was getting 50p toilet anxiety and accosted some poor local to enquire if the toilets were free. Apparently they were! We grabbed a large steak pasty from the Portreath Bakers (this has been done many times before!) and we sat down by the front to gorge them.
So could we get the bus back? …. not unless we waited the best part of 4 hours! So we consoled ourselves with an ice cream (talk about shrinkflation) from the store and set off back up the hill. It was a bit of a slog but we did manage to avoid having to go down to Porthtowan beach, but the walk along the road was a little hazardous. We were kept entertained by Stuart being met by Elaine at JOG, very impressive.

This was followed by watching RATW (Race Across The World) on the beeb and then to sleep…. and I slept through the night!
