Playa la Burriana

We hit the jackpot this morning with the fabulous sunrise. It was very nice to use our viewpoint to maximum advantage after the last two cloudy days.

We also had a bonus at breakfast today in the form of chocolate and walnut Mother’s Day cake. Very delicious it was too!

We then headed off relatively early to Playa de Burriana on the east side of Nerja, which a barman had recommended to us last night in Frigiliana. He did us proud because it was clean with good facilities and free parking right near the beach. It wasn’t even very busy when we got there but filled up as the day went on. The views in both directions were fantastic. It was grainy sand so you needed crocs for maximum comfort! We had a lovely stroll along the waters edge and then Dave went in for a dip. I was enjoying it way too much just lying on the beach!! As you can see from the photos, Dave very much appreciated the scenery.

We had noticed as we drove along that we were very near to Balcón de Europa viewing point. It was about half a mile away, so a good start to our daily walk. There was a very nicely delineated walkway heading up to the viewing point and we went from a chilled, underpopulated beach to tourism central. It was swarming with people, most of whom were trying to take photos and selfies.

When we got back down to the beach we decided to have a light lunch in a beachfront restaurant called José Cruz. They specialise in seafood, were established years ago and looked as if they knew what they were doing. We chose to share sardines and fried whitebait, washed down with a couple of Victoria tostada cero (cero = alcohol free! 😃). As with most establishments, we also got a complimentary snack with our drink – this time it was a small portion of ensaladilla rusa (Russian salad) and some olives. The fish was cooked to perfection and we would definitely recommend the place.

We’d noticed a nice walkway in the hills just after Frigiliana so stopped on the way back to walk up it. Tourists started coming to Frigiliana more when the village won a competition in 1982 for the most beautiful village in Spain. The views down to the town were absolutely gorgeous. We had a birdseye view from that vantage point.

After all that activity, we went back and had a siesta before going for a swim in the hotel pool.

As it was our last night here, we ate in the hotel restaurant. Everybody was out on the terrace because the evening light was looking so gorgeous. We’d really loved it here and the staff were really friendly. Dave had some pork ‘secreto de cerdo’ which is a cut mainly served in Spain and I had some cod. We had tried our best to have a rare alcohol free day, but they thwarted our efforts by bringing us two complimentary glasses of fizz to round off our stay.
