Cazorla

We had a surprisingly quiet and comfortable night in our layby in Lanjarón! We’d decided to head on to Cazorla and were keen to book in advance after our previous experience in finding a campsite! I had not been able to get through to them yesterday but fortunately got hold of them this morning and managed to book for two nights. Those mountain roads are pretty twisty so we didn’t really want to drive all that way only to find that they were shut or full! Luckily they had space. Dave had seen some great reviews and was keen to go there.

We stopped en route to refuel at a place full of lorry drivers. We went Spanish style for breakfast, with toast, olive oil and tomato pulp. On the way out, there was a guy selling asparagus out of the back of his car. I bought a fulsome bunch which has set us up for dinner for the next two nights. 🤣

We were soon back in Jaén province and driving past miles of olive groves. We tried to stick to the main routes as far as possible (using Copilot)  and the route was very good.

We were very pleased when we arrived at the campsite. There was a small shop, very scenic and spacious pitches and a beautifully maintained toilet block. Reasons to be cheerful. 🤣 I made a makeshift washing line to dry off our swimsuits and Dave headed off to the office to get good Wi-Fi and load all his photos! Whilst there, he received his blood test results, which were looking decidedly better. 😃

We walked for about 20 minutes into Cazorla and it was even more beautiful than we expected. The mountains loomed large behind the town as we approached. The first square, Plaza Santa María, had the ruins of a stunning church. We went on through the town to the Plaza de La Constitución. There was a calm feeling to the place, few tourists and no open bars! We found one that opened at 8. but that was in an hours time. So the girl in the shop next door sold us a couple of beers (for about 3 euros) and said we could sit at the tables of the bar and drink it there. Result!

We wandered back up to the campsite and had asparagus and chorizo for dinner. It was all quiet by about ten – a real family campsite. One of the nicest we’ve been to. https://campingcortijo.com/en/
