Recharge in Cazorla

We spent most of today chilling at the campsite. Dave found a nice new place to work and a new colleague. 🤣 He had a lot of fun processing the videos from last night.

We headed out into the town in the afternoon and followed the sound of the music which was coming from uphill by the Hermitage. We managed to get into the café today as there were not a lot of people there and we bought two Cuerva in the café run by the brotherhood. The brotherhood are groups of people who organise the annual religious procession and festivities. Cuerva is similar to sangria and was served with two generous tapas of sliced bread with mixed Mediterranean vegetables (see above).

Tonight the procession was to head back up the hill from the parish Church up to the Hermitage, leaving the parish church at seven. We decided to find a prime spot in the Plaza Santa Maria, have some more tapas and watch the procession go past.

The procession passed through the square and then the costaleros took San Isicio into the ruins of the church where there was another folk dance performance. This time the dancers brought out their castanets. It was gorgeous.

After that, we walked a different route to the other end of the town and ended up in the Plaza de La Constitución, where we shared a portion of pinchos morunos (spiced pork skewers). There was another stunning sunset and, after Dave taking more photos and me popping into a nice deli, we wandered back up the hill against a sea of locals and band members returning down from the hermitage.
